Description

Coal winning or extraction is the core production activity in opencast mining. It involves systematic removal of coal from the exposed seam using suitable mining methods to achieve targeted production while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Method A – Surface Miner

Continuous cutting of coal using surface miner machines with in-built sizing capability. The coal is directly loaded onto dumpers or conveyors, minimizing drilling, blasting, and environmental impact while ensuring uniform size control.

Method B – Drilling & Blasting

Systematic drilling of blast holes in the coal seam followed by controlled blasting to fragment the coal. Excavators and loaders are then deployed for safe and efficient coal extraction and loading operations.

Method Selection Criteria

The choice of extraction method depends on seam hardness, geological conditions, environmental restrictions, vibration sensitivity, and overall production targets. Proper planning ensures optimum recovery, minimal dilution, and maximum operational efficiency.
